FTP support for ShopTab's Data Feed

12/26/11

ShopTab supports FTP and Secure FTP (SFTP) for the upload of product files into your Facebook Store.  These upload options use the existing data template format for all CSV file.

These upload options will be supported in the Data Feed tab in ShopTab admin. All user plans will support this format via a weekly upload of products in the Standard or Expanded Packages and daily upload options via the Ultimate Package.

Once you have created your FTP or SFTP URL, click the “Schedule” button to finalize the upload and store the URL in the database.   Then we suggest you come back to this page and click on the “Upload Feed” to immediately upload the file and test that the file format is working. You will recieve an email notification within minutes of the upload completion. If the number of products listed is 0, the format string for your feed is incorrect or there are no products in your file.

DETAILS ON FTP

According to Wikipedia -
FTP

File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a standard network protocol used to transfer files from one host to another host over a TCP-based network, such as the Internet. FTP is built on a client-server architecture and utilizes separate control and data connections between the client and server.[1] FTP users may authenticate themselves using a clear-text sign-in protocol but can connect anonymously if the server is configured to allow it.

SFTP, or secure FTP, is a program that uses SSH to transfer files. Unlike standard FTP, it encrypts both commands and data, preventing passwords and sensitive information from being transmitted in the clear over the network. It is functionally similar to FTP, but because it uses a different protocol, you can't use a standard FTP client to talk to an SFTP server, nor can you connect to an FTP server with a client that supports only SFTP.
